POTES
VIsta panorámica de Potes
  Panoramic view of Potes

This municipality is one of the most appealing in Cantabria, thanks to its geographic peculiarities. Potes is a flat territory surrounded by mountains, scene to many a medieval battle between the powerful houses of Mendoza and Manrique. More recently, the great violinist, Jesús de Monasterio, was born here in 1836.

Undoubtedly, one of the most relevant aspects of Potes and its surrounding area is its gastronomy. There are a good number of restaurants in the village, of all styles and types, where you can try a wide variety of dishes. The “Lebaniega” stew, a type of chickpea casserole, is one of the standout culinary delights, made with locally sourced, small, firm chickpeas, cured or fresh meat, cabbage and stuffing.
